Are you afraid to fail?

When was the last time you tried something new like painting, signing or dancing etc,. It must have been a while being occupied in our regular qualms.

Here is an interesting talk by Cecilia Han about being a positive pessimist, yes it is a new concept.

Lets try something new today, take painting for example.
Try painting something that you feel like.
Once done check out if you did a good job?
Did you think you could have done better if practiced, or you thought you were going to do an even worse job?

According to Sarah since we became adults we stopped trying new things, and may be because we either wanted to do a great job or not do the job at all.
Fear of failing which we did not have as children.
Here is when she introduces the concept of being a 'Positive Pessimist'. Two opposite and contradicting things when combined together works great.

So how to be a positive pessimist?
  • Explore the situation and consequences to understand what can go wrong.
  • Ask yourself if you can really accept those worst consequences. Are you prepared for that?
  • If yes, then go try.
Take huge challenges by knowing the worst consequences and be prepared for that.
  • Conquer with grit.
Some challenges or chances are a lifetime opportunity that might not strike back.

Remember...
  • There is no shame to be a loser.
Set targets even if they are small ones; Devote yourself.

Be a Positive Pessimist!
